Don't waste good money paying for a 99 minute long toy commercial. Overall B- When Marla and her little brother Charlie get sucked into another dimension, they get split up, and Marla will have to explore a world of plastic to get him back. Release date December 6, 2019 Violence C+ Sexual Content B+ Profanity A- Substance Use Why is Playmobil: The Movie rated? The MPAA rated Playmobil: The Movie Run Time: 99 minutes Parent Movie Review At Parent Previews, we have a built-in bias against movies that are designed to sell toys to kids. We occasionally suspend our disapproval if a movies messages are so positive that they compensate for the commercial subtext (see The Lego Movie. But Playmobil: The Movie is not one of those movies. It is a non-stop commercial for Playmobil toys and no one should have to pay to watch a commercial. At least on TV the commercials are free. Playmobil: The Movie sets out to be a madcap musical comic adventure story for kids but it has clearly bitten off more than it can chew. The comedy fails: even the kids in the theater didnt laugh as the jokes landed like bags of wet cement. And the music doesnt soar. None of the songs were memorable and they didnt integrate smoothly into the script. Instead of having the songs carry the story or enrich the characters, it simply feels weird to have the characters break into a song and dance number at the beginning of the film – especially when it doesnt happen again. As for the adventure, theres lots of that, but you should be warned that its composed of non-stop violent set pieces. Thankfully, the bulk of the action involves Playmobil action figures who dont bleed and whose severed limbs can be easily reattached. But there is still too much violence for younger kids, and I cant recommend this film for pre-schoolers or early elementary school aged kids. The story is based on orphaned siblings Marla and Charlie whose thirst for adventure has been derailed by tragedy. For four years, teenaged Marla has raised her brother since the police appeared at their door one night to tell them their parents had died in an accident. Now a rebellious Charlie has snuck out of the house at night. Marla tracks him down, but the pair are caught in the beam of a magic lighthouse and transported to a world populated by Playmobil toys. While they are recovering from the shock of being turned into plastic action figures, Charlie is kidnapped and Marla goes to the rescue. Thus begin multiple scenes of action and intense peril including kids being chased by a Tyrannosaurus Rex, implied gladiatorial combat, Vikings attacking a village, multiple chase scenes, pirates locking characters in cages, aliens knocking people out, and a particularly disturbing scene where a character is threatened with torture in a dental chair (as if going to the dentist didnt scare enough kids already…. This script might do a great job of highlighting Playmobils play sets, but it is far less effective in creating a movie kids are going to love. There was enough action to keep my own boys watching, but they werent able to explain the story to me afterwards. As for adults, this is the kind of movie that has you longing for your phone or blissful unconsciousness. The messages in this cinematic advertorial dont make up for its desperate desire to sell toys. The main theme of the movie seems to be that kids should be bold and seize adventure (and buy our toys now. Other themes include the importance of loyalty and friendship and the pain of betrayal (but get your parents to buy our toys now. If your family are already into the Playmobil universe, this flick could be a lot of fun. But if youre not, I cant think of any reason to subject yourself and your kids to 99 chaotic minutes of “buy our toys now! ” Directed by Lino DiSalvo. Starring Jim Gaffigan, Daniel Radcliffe, and Anya Taylor-Joy. Running time: 99 minutes. Theatrical release December 6, 2019. Updated December 7, 2019 Watch the trailer for Playmobil: The Movie Playmobil: The Movie Rating & Content Info Violence: A child is kidnapped. There are multiple chase scenes in the movie. A helicopter crashes and catches fire. There are several scenes where characters are thrown or catapulted through the air. A character is sent off for gladiatorial combat with a monster. Two characters are chased by a Tyrannosaurus Rex. There is a scene involving a Viking attack on a village: characters are apparently killed and one hits herself in the head with a mace, knocking herself out. Characters are locked in cages by a pirate. Characters are tied up in ropes and hung over a magical rang that displays perilous locations, including a pit of lava and a pool of sharks. A man almost falls through a spinning fan but escapes unscathed when the fan stops. There is a fistfight. A character sprays people with ice and freezes them. An alien knocks characters out. A giant caterpillar-type creature grabs a girl, squeezes, and threatens her. A girl kicks a character and throws another one over a wall. A girl hits people with saddlebags. Human skeletons are seen in cells. People are put in stocks and things are thrown at them. A character has a teen dragged to a “dentist chair” and is threatened with torture. A robot falls down the stairs: its broken arm is repaired. Sexual Content:   There is an icky moment where an adult man talks about a teenage girl being attracted to him. Profanity: There is one minor swear word and plenty of name-calling. Alcohol / Drug Use: Vikings drink tankards of what is probably ale. Drugs come up when a man accidentally knocks himself with sleeping drops out and another character collapses after drinking a drugged cocktail. A horse is given “magic hay” and sprouts wings. Posted on Friday, July 26th, 2019 by Heres one way to make sure film marketing piques my interest: completely change approaches from one trailer to the next in the hopes of obscuring a movies actual premise. I honestly wouldnt have given a second thought to the animated feature  Playmobil: The Movie after seeing its first trailer, but todays new one got my attention for the way it hides the premise explored the first time around. The film even has a brand new official synopsis which also tries to shield its actual plot. See what I mean below. Playmobil: The Movie Trailer Heres the new synopsis that came along with this trailer: In PLAYMOBILs animated action adventure, a top secret organization has caused citizens from different lands to vanish from thin air. The dashing and charismatic secret agent Rex Dasher (Daniel Radcliffe) must partner with smooth-talking food truck driver Del (Jim Gaffigan) and Marla (Anya Taylor-Joy) a smart, savvy civilian with her own secret agenda, to rescue them. Against unthinkable odds, the trio go on a fantastic journey across stunning new worlds as they gather clues for their rescue mission. With all that in mind, now watch the films first trailer, which reveals the real story this movie has in store: Theres no mention at all of the live-action elements in that trailer, which came with a description that had no problem leaning into those details: When her younger brother Charlie (Gabriel Bateman) unexpectedly disappears into the magical, animated universe of PLAYMOBIL, unprepared Marla (Anya Taylor-Joy) must go on a quest of a lifetime to bring him home. As she sets off on a fantastic journey across stunning new worlds, Marla teams up with some unlikely and heroic new friends – the smooth-talking food truck driver Del (Jim Gaffigan) the dashing and charismatic secret agent Rex Dasher (Daniel Radcliffe) a wholehearted misfit robot, an extravagant fairy-godmother (Meghan Trainor) and many more. Through their vibrant adventure, Marla and Charlie realize that no matter how life plays out, you can achieve anything when you believe in yourself! Interestingly, the release date for this one has been all over the calendar. The film was originally slated to arrive back in January, but its changed distributors and release dates several times since then, moving from January to April to August 16 to August 30, and ending with this trailer just promising that the movie is “coming soon. ” Anya Taylor-Joy, Jim Gaffigan, Gabriel Bateman, Adam Lambert, Kenan Thompson, Meghan Trainor and Daniel Radcliffe star, Blaise Hemingway and Greg Erb & Jason Oremland wrote the script, and the movie marks the directorial debut of  Lino Disalvo, the head of animation on Disneys Frozen. This will be the second major animated project released by STX Entertainment, and I must say that from a pure filmmaking angle, this one at least looks better than this years UglyDolls. While the characters are clearly simplified to match the Playmobil toys that inspired them, the animation looks pretty slick and theres some interesting lighting going on in a few of the shots on display here. Of course, whether that will actually translate into this being a good movie remains to be seen. Cool Posts From Around the Web.

Movie Stream Playmobil: films. Marla and Charlie travel from the real world on an adventure to the Playmobil universe where they re-enact their favourite toys.
Very children-focussed with only a few laughs for grown-ups and those gags that do work tend to get over-played. The story is OK but Charlie and Marla both spend too long being lost and needy. The voicing and animation is good. The design of the Playmobil realm was nicely done but the portal into it was unimaginative.
I liked, Rex Dasher. Following its second weekend, its safe to claim On Animations Playmobil: The Movie as one of the most expensive animation box office disasters of all-time. Someones going to have to do the math at some point to figure out just how much money the film has lost, but it has now clearly joined the ignominious pantheon of feature-length cartoon bombs like Mars Needs Moms, Titan A. E., and Delgo. Playmobil grossed a meager 143, 735 in its second weekend from 2, 337 theaters, good for 23rd place at the North American box office. The film, with a reported budget of 75 million and distributed stateside by STX Entertainment, screened a single time per day at most theaters, with few theaters running it beyond three daily screenings. The film plummeted 74% from an already rough first weekend, and after 10 days, it remains about 33, 500 shy of the 1 million mark. NOTE: This paragraph has been updated with final weekend box office numbers. ] Words seem inadequate to explain how poorly this film has done at the box office. There have been other bombs this year – last month, for example, we watched Arctic Dogs make its feeble debut, yet even that film has grossed over five times the earnings of Playmobil. At the end of the day, Playmobil will be the worst-performing title of all-time to launch in as many theaters (2, 377) as this film did. The only two films that opened in 2, 000+ theaters whose final box office total may be less than Playmobil are The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure and Delgo, but when the grosses of those earlier films are adjusted for inflation, Playmobil could still wind up claiming the absolute bottom for any first-run feature film opening in 2, 000 or more theaters.

Nell Minow December 6, 2019 A movie "inspired" by a line of toys has one essential challenge—to be more than a feature-length commercial. Tops in that category are " The Lego Movie " and " The Lego Batman Movie. with " Trolls " following behind. "Playmobil: The Movie" comes much further down the list, just before " UglyDolls. which couldn't even get its message straight about how beauty is what's inside.  It's not a spoiler to say the message here is that we should all be open to adventure and play. But it drags along, the 110-minute running time seeming even longer than that. And it fails to justify itself as a film, with a lackluster storyline that does not try to keep consistent the rules of the world it creates. After a whole scene establishing the limited mobility of the Playmobil characters, they suddenly switch to being able to have human-like joints and range of motion. It does not even work as a commercial, never showing us why these toys could be especially fun to play with. Advertisement More troubling, this is a movie for young children that begins (in live-action) with a teenager and her six-year-old brother opening the door of their home to a pair of police officers, who have come to tell them that their parents have been killed in an accident. Stories about children need to get the parents out of the way somehow so the kids can have an adventure, but this is too intense and shocking for film's tone and likely to upset younger children. It then jumps ahead four years, as the now-22-year-old Marla comes home exhausted, the burden of her responsibilities having taken all of the sense of fun and adventure out of her life. "It's like when Mom and Dad died, you died, too, and we're just pretending to be a family. her now-ten-year-old brother Charlie ( Gabriel Bateman) tells her. So, she probably needs more than a magical trip to toyland to cheer her up, but that's all we're going to get. Marla ( Anya Taylor-Joy) discovers that Charlie has run away. She uses his cell phone's tracking device to find him at a not-yet-open toy fair with a massive display of Playmobil toys including a castle, pirate and Viking ships, and a Roman Coliseum-style amphitheater set up for gladiator battles. There is also a lighthouse with a magical ray of light that transports them into the world of the toys. Marla is a Playmobil version of herself, but Charlie transforms from a child into a burly Viking with a beard.  Charlie has been captured by the evil Emperor Maximus ( Adam Lambert) who says he will give the people what they want—brutal trial by combat. Charlie joins a collection of warriors including an Amazon, a futuristic bounty hunter, and a pirate captain ( Kenan Thompson) assembled by Maximus as gladiators.  Marla is determined to rescue him. And so, she has the adventure she dreamed of before her parents died, visiting all kinds of different lands (but is there really a Playmobil kit to build a seedy nightclub that's run by a worm-creature) She meets an assortment of characters, with the stand-outs being the super-cool and elegant British spy Rex Dasher (voiced by Daniel Radcliffe) and a fairy godmother whose most important magical power is encouragement (voiced by Meghan Trainor. Most of her time is spent with Del ( Jim Gaffigan) this movie's version of The Dude, an easygoing guy who wears Hawaiian shirts, sells "enchanted" pink bales of hay, makes a mean burrito, and is in debt to the worm-creature.  The settings, like the songs, and, let's face it, the toys, are bland and generic. "Playmobil: The Movie" might help pass the time on a snow day, but it is nowhere near as entertaining as whatever stories kids will make up for their toys themselves. Movie Stream Playmobil: film streaming. The holiday titles begin to roll in this weekend as family adventure sequel  Jumanji: The Next Level,  horror remake  Black Christmas,  and Clint Eastwoods true life drama  Richard Jewell  debut. You can peruse my detailed prediction posts on that trio here: Theres no doubt that  Jumanji  will end the three-week reign of  Frozen II  atop the charts. The 2017 predecessor became a phenomenon for Sony and eventually legged out to become the studios highest domestic earner of all time. Estimates have the inevitable sequel making between 40-50 million out of the gate and I have it on the higher end of that range.  Level  hopes to earn a nice chunk of cash right away with  Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker  on deck next weekend. As for the other newbies,  Christmas  and  Jewell  could be in a close race for #3. Horror titles always have the opportunity to exceed expectations, but Ill give  Christmas  low teens and Eastwoods latest just under that. With a mid 40s dip, Frozen II  should fall to second with  Knives Out  rounding out the top five. And with that, my take on the weekend ahead: 1.  Jumanji: The Next Level Predicted Gross: 48. 7 million 2.  Frozen II Predicted Gross: 18. 9 million 3.  Black Christmas Predicted Gross: 12. 1 million 4.  Richard Jewell Predicted Gross: 11 million 5.  Knives Out Predicted Gross: 8. 8 million Box Office Results (December 6-8) Per usual, it was a rather quiet post Thanksgiving frame as  Frozen II  easily held the top spot for the third time. The Disney sequel took in 35. 1 million, falling a bit more than my 41. 3 million projection. Its tally is up to 338 million. Knives Out  stayed put in second with 14. 2 million, not matching my 16. 4 million estimate for a two-week take of 63 million. Ford v Ferrari  was third with 6. 6 million (I said 7. 5 million) as it nears the century mark with 91 million. Queen & Slim  also made 6. 6 million (I said 6. 7 million) in its sophomore frame for a 27 million total. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood  was fifth and its not experiencing the minor declines that many (myself included) anticipated. It made 5. 2 million compared to my 7. 2 million forecast for an unimpressive 43 million. The Mark Ruffalo drama  Dark Waters  expanded wide and was sixth with 3. 9 million, on pace with my 3. 7 million prediction. Total is 5 million. Last and most certainly least, critically drubbed animated effort  Playmobil: The Movie  was an absolute disaster. Opening in 14th place, it made 656, 000. I was far more generous at 2. 8 million. For those keeping score, thats a 281 per theater average. And thats all for now, folks! Until next time… Hollywood had reason to be thankful over the holiday weekend as the box office saw a much needed rebound. More importantly, two original films (thats right – not based on comics or bestsellers) aimed at adults exceeded expectations. For this first full weekend of December, the studios are holding back as they wait closer to Christmas to unleash their blockbusters like  Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker  and  Jumanji: The Next Level.  The only new wide release is the animated  Playmobil: The Movie  and you can peruse my prediction post on it here: I dont expect much from  Playmobil,  which has generated scant buzz and has  Frozen II  in its third frame as direct competition. My 2. 8 million estimate leaves it outside of the top five. There is also the expansion of the Mark Ruffalo drama  Dark Waters,  which had a so-so limited release this past weekend. My 3. 7 million projection also leaves it beyond the high five. That top five should remain the same pictures with perhaps some movement in the numbers placement.  Frozen II  may lose a bit more than half its Thanksgiving audience and it should have zero trouble getting a three-peat. I expect all other titles to drop in the high 30s to mid 40s with the smallest drops going to  Knives Out  after its terrific debut and  A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.  Heres how I have it all playing out: 1.  Frozen II Predicted Gross: 41. 3 million 2.  Knives Out Predicted Gross: 16. 4 million 3.  Ford v Ferrari Predicted Gross: 7. 5 million 4.  A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood Predicted Gross: 7. 2 million 5.  Queen & Slim Predicted Gross: 6. 7 million Box Office Results (November 29-December 1) As mentioned, it was a bountiful Turkey Day weekend for Tinsel Town as  Frozen II  dominated the charts in its sophomore frame with 85. 9 million, just over my 84. 4 million take. The Disney sequel has amassed a cool 288 million thus far. Rian Johnsons acclaimed murder mystery  Knives Out  got off to a sharp start with 26. 7 million from Friday to Sunday and 41. 4 million since its Wednesday beginning. Those figures easily eclipse my respective predictions of 18. 5 million and 27. 7 million. Ford v Ferrari  was third with 13. 1 million, in line with my 12. 8 million estimate for 81 million total. Queen & Slim  was the other impressive debut as the romantic crime drama grossed 11. 8 million for the traditional weekend and 16 million since Wednesday. Thats well over my projections of 6. 9 million and 10. 1 million. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood  rounded out the top five with 11. 7 million (I said 11 million) for a two-week tally of 34 million. And that does it for now, folks! Until next time… The post Thanksgiving box office weekend is usually a sluggish frame when studios avoid releasing hoped for hits. 2019 is no different as  Playmobil: The Movie  is the only new wide entry out. The animated comedic adventure is based on the line of German toys and its already been delayed from January to April to August to now. Not a positive sign. Neither is the 24% Rotten Tomatoes score. Lino DiSalvo makes his directorial debut and hes best known for his involvement in Disneys  Frozen.  That films sequel should be making 10-15 times more in its third weekend than this will in its rollout. There are some recognizable faces providing voiceover work including Anya-Taylor Joy, Jim Gaffigan, Gabriel Bateman, Adam Lambert, Kenan Thompson, Meghan Trainor, and Daniel Radcliffe. There simply seems to be no discernible buzz going for this. As mentioned, theres a much higher profile kids flick that should be raking in the bucks as  Playmobil  searches for young eyeballs. I believe it wont get them and that even 5 million is probably out of reach. Playmobil: The Movie  opening weekend prediction: 2.

Movie Stream Playmobil: films à l'affiche. August 6, 2019 11:30PM PT Kid-friendly but disappointingly short on charm or smarts, this toy-based toon largely serves to flatter the 'Lego Movie' franchise by comparison. Tucked in the closing credits of “ Playmobil: The Movie ” is a dedication to Horst Brandstätter, the German entrepreneur whose company began production of the now-iconic Playmobil toys in the 1970s — acknowledging a vast popular legacy for the dinky figurines that now extends to a whole animated feature. Its a nice touch, if a tellingly incomplete one: Unmentioned is Hans Beck, the inventor who designed and developed the toys themselves, and by the end of this snazzy but shrilly synthetic kids romp, its hardly surprising to see business acumen honored ahead of creative input. An attempt to do for the smiling, claw-handed Playmobil collective what “The Lego Movie” did for the humble plastic brick — but without that blockbusters dizzy, self-aware wit and visual invention — Lino DiSalvo s hyperactive film never transcends its blatant product-flogging purpose. The result, brightly stuffed with pirates and vikings and glitter-winged creatures at every turn, will no doubt please very young viewers as it unrolls across Europe and beyond this summer, though it makes precious few concessions to their summer-fatigued parents. (STX Entertainment has pushed the U. S. release to early December, which should at least get a few Playmobil sets on various Christmas wishlists. A former Disney animator integral to the success of “Frozen” and “Tangled, ” DiSalvo piles on the plastic spectacle in his directorial debut, whizzing his audience frantically through a slideshow of disparate dayglo environments that also, of course, handily showcases the breadth of the Playmobil range: the Wild West one second, ancient Rome the next, with dragons and 21st-century cars equally at home in either. The words “Collect em all! ” never actually appear on screen, but the directive is felt. This approach, not so much world-building as world-displaying, ensures that “ Playmobil: The Movie ” never stalls: Like a child eagerly showing off their toy collection, its always got something new and sparkly to wave in our faces. It does, however, show up the distracted raggedness of the films storytelling, which is heavy on moment-to-moment activity and perilously light on consequential action. A thin quest narrative, patched together from “Peter Pan, ” “Labyrinth” and assorted Disney-Pixar offcuts, plunges two orphaned New York siblings into the iridescent cartoon universe of Playmobil, essentially stranding them there until both reconnect with the childhood joy they once knew. No prizes for guessing what they played with in those halcyon days. An over-extended live-action prologue introduces perky high school senior Marla (Anya Taylor-Joy, very far from the cool adult rigors of “Thoroughbreds” and “The Witch”) whos preparing to travel the world once she graduates. The first of several unmemorable musical numbers details all the planned adventures that she and her fanciful kid brother Charlie (the talented Gabriel Bateman, appearing more juvenile than in “Childs Play”) have hitherto only enacted in plastic. Yet when tragedy strikes and her parents are killed in a car accident — a tactful reveal that may nonetheless strike an overly glum note for very small fry — her dreams are deferred. Cut to four years later, and the responsibilities of guardianship have hardened and dispirited Marla in ways only a clumsily engineered visit to a magical branded model fair can remedy: Beamed into a sprawling diorama of the three-inch wonders, she and Charlie emerge as animated, Playmobilized versions of themselves. Well, she has; Charlie gets to be a fierce, tattooed Viking warrior, immediately hero-worshipped by his fellow Norsemen for prowess in battle. (Boys seemingly have most of the fun in this universe, while girls get to be fairy godmothers or vindictive villainesses. Within minutes, hes abducted by maniacal Roman emperor Maximus (Adam Lambert) who it turns out is building a gladiator squad of imprisoned heroes from other Playmobil lines: pirates, Amazonians and even Rex Dasher, a slick-but-dim 007 clone voiced rather plummily by Daniel Radcliffe. Its up to Marla to traverse this disordered realm and rescue him, with a wisecracking assist from food-truck driver Del (Jim Gaffigan) and occasional stops for songs that, even when handled by actual pop stars like Lambert and Meghan Trainor, have remarkably little melodic staying power. Despite ostensibly strong emotional stakes upfront, with our heroine burdened by familial grief and guilt, its hard to care much when it feels like so much pretext for a feature-length commercial — in particular, a tacked-on moral championing the liberating virtues of pure imagination rings a bit hollow amid the avalanche of obvious merchandising. Where “The Lego Movie” subverted this irony with its own wry meta-commentary on the tension between product and character, “Playmobil: The Movie” is neither as thoughtful nor as playful, having less fun than you might think with the built-in absurdities and anachronisms of a crazy-quilt toyland where cowboys and dinosaurs live side by side. Even the “Angry Birds” films found more scope for outright hilarity in their cynical framework. Meanwhile, after the films first, amusing animated scene, in which Marla struggles to adapt to the stiff joints of her Playmobil body, the figurines are swiftly treated as any other madly scrambling (and scrambled) cartoon characters. If youre hoping for at least one sight gag at the expense of the Playmobil populations signature horseshoe-shaped paws, for example, none comes; even the corporate branding here isnt all that distinctive. From a purely technical standpoint, DiSalvos Mouse House-honed expertise is evident in the soda-pop sheen of the animation, fully embracing the airbrushed fluidity of computer graphics where one might have expected at least a tip of the hat to the stop-motion aesthetic of the toys themselves. Here, as in so many other departments, “Playmobil: The Movie” could stand to be scrappier, to shed some focus-grouped slickness for a soul of its own. “Adventure is worthwhile in itself, ” Marla observes, quoting her childhood heroine Amelia Earhart; for all its organized chaos, this proficient promotional exercise hardly walks the talk. Playmobil is a basic movie, a very repeated story, and has a similarity to Lego movie, the truth is that to pass the time the film fulfills its function, the animation is friendly and manages to create interesting scenes; the comedy does not stand out, but there are some comic moments that made me laugh, and the end is very predictable and even the decisions that the characters have to make are very basic, although they could delve deeper into the relationship of the brothers before launching into the adventure, but I understand what the public is for this movie, so they decided to spend important moments quickly, it is not terrible, but it does not shine at any time, but I could spend the pleasant time.
